Bio-technology faculty was founded in 1930 as animal breeding faculty. After being renamed several times it got the present name.
Now the faculty is training the specialists of high qualification on specialities: 110401 Zoo technologies (with specializations “Bee keeping” and “Dog breeding”), 020201 Biology (with specialization “Hunting”), and 110305 Animal products production and processing technology (with specialization “Animal products processing technology”).
At present 500 full-time students and 200 part-time students are studying at the faculty. Some students are from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Vietnam. Every year the students take part in different contests and usually win them. During the last three years 15 students took part and 12 students won the contests of scientific works. Every year two or three students have farm practice in Germany and 6-7 – in Denmark and some of them study in the Netherlands for one year.

There are 46 professors at the faculty, among them 18 doctors of sciences and 25 candidates of sciences.
The scientists of the faculty work on 10 scientific fields linked with production and processing animal products. The main fields are: improving and development of selection-genetic methods of animals productivity and their resistance to illnesses (S.G. Islamova, A.M. Ishemgulov), molecular-genetic and immune-genetic expertise of pedigree animals (I.Yu. Dolmatova), resource- and energy-saving technologies of laying-in, storage and using of feeds (F.S. Khaziakhmetov), optimal rations and calculations of feed needs for animal breeding (T.A. Faritov), technological parameters of producing meat and milk animal breeding products, pig breeding, poultry breeding, fur breeding and sheep breeding (A.V. Bliznetsov, Kh.Kh. Tagirov, R.S. Gizatullin, R.M. Mudarisov), using non-traditional feed supplements in rations of poultry and pigs (R.R. Gadiev, A.V. Bliznetsov), keeping of water fowl in selection nests (R.R. Gadiev), physiological and biochemical bases for productivity raising, complex using of bee swarms (A.M. Ishemgulov, V.R. Tuktarov, M.G. Giniyatullin).

There are also two scientific-innovation centers: on development and using advanced technologies of animals feeding (F.S. Khaziakhmetov) and on bee keeping (A.M. Ishemgulov).
During last five years the professors have published more than 1,000 scientific articles, 23 books, 26 study books. They also got 6 patents for their inventions and defended 24 candidate and 10 doctoral theses.
The faculty has trained more than 9,000 zoo-technologists.
Now there are four departments at the faculty: of animal products production technologies; animal feeding and physiology; farm animal breeding; biology, bee keeping and hunting.
